AOTMiT begins work on updating the HTA Guidelines

The Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System has begun work on updating the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Guidelines – a document defining the principles and good practices of health technology assessment, ensuring high quality of analyses and reliability of their results.

AOTMiT developed the first version of the HTA Guidelines in March 2007, then updated them in 2009 and again in 2016.

📅 The official launch of the project took place on November 18, marking the start of the conceptual work and broad expert consultations.

Our goal is to conduct the process in a transparent and substantive manner, taking into account the perspectives of all key stakeholders—representatives of the scientific and clinical communities, healthcare institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry.

🕒 Why is an update necessary?

Work on the new version of the Guidelines is a response to:

  • dynamic methodological and technological progress—scientific standards in the field of health technology assessment methodology have developed significantly,
  • changes in the regulatory environment,
  • the evolution of the needs of the Guidelines’ audience.

📌 The update of the Guidelines is also one of the important activities carried out as part of the Agency’s Strategy for 2026-2028, whose key objective is to strengthen the position of AOTMiT as an independent, expert center for analysis in the field of health technology assessment (HTA) and health service pricing.

Thanks to such activities, #AOTMiT consistently strengthens its authority in the national and European #HTA ecosystem, providing an important substantive basis for decisions made in the healthcare system.

🎯 Objectives of the update

  • harmonization of Polish procedures with European regulations;
  • incorporation of changes that have taken place in HTA methodology and adaptation to current standards.

💡Benefits of the update

  • improving the process of assessing medical technologies and maintaining the continuity of good practices,
  • aligning Polish standards with current European standards;
  • increasing the transparency of HTA processes and the level of confidence in the results of analyses,
  • increasing the involvement of patient communities
  • improving the quality of documents in the medical technology assessment process.

👥 Who is working on the update?

The project is coordinated by the Guideline Update Team, which consists of experienced AOTMiT analysts supported by invited experts in the fields of HTA, public health, the patient community, and representatives of key institutions in the area of healthcare.

Over the years, the HTA guidelines have become the foundation of the daily work of many communities. It is a document that has grown out of the practice and responsibility of AOTMiT, and we feel responsible for the direction of its further development.
